Milton Keynes is home to circa 10,000 businesses which provide over 130,700 jobs. The city has seen a significant increase in both jobs and businesses over the 7 years from 1999 to 2006. Between 2005 and 2007 Milton Keynes became home to an additional 1,740 new businesses, providing over 12,600 new jobs. In addition over 1500 of the city's existing establishments grew providing over 17,000 new jobs.

Between 1995 and 2006 Government data shows the number of jobs within the city increasing by over 33% - over double the national increase.
Milton Keynes continued to outperform both the South East and Great Britain: Between 1995 and 2000 - the annual rate of job growth in Milton Keynes was 4.9%. The comparable figures for the South East region was 3.5% and Great Britain was 1.8%.
The labour force in Milton Keynes is forecast to grow to approximately 17,300 over the period of 2007-2015, assuming current levels of economic growth stay the same.
