Future Growth
Milton Keynes is one of the UK's fastest growing urban areas and is on track to become (around) the 15th largest city in the UK by 2031. Between 1981 and 2007, the population increased by 84% - compared to a rise of just 8% in the whole of the UK in the same period - and is forecast to rise to 257,700 by 2016.
The second phase of Milton Keynes' expansion has already started and will see the city compete economically and culturally with other elite cities across Europe and throughout the world. Milton Keynes is fast becoming the driving force for economic development in this region.
Milton Keynes' planned growth offers a range of first-class opportunities, many within the city centre area. Over £1 billion of private investment has been committed in the last decade, transforming the city's skyline with new architecture, developing the infrastructure needed and creating an unparalleled air of optimism throughout the city, maintained throughout the recent recession.
Already underway in the city centre is The Pinnacle. Opened in the Summer of 2009, it is the largest office development in Milton Keynes for 25 years. Around 50% of the 200,000 sq ft development is already taken by Deloitte and Denton Wilde Sapte, a real sign of the confidence surrounding the city. In addition, £130 million of rail improvements at Central Milton Keynes Station will further improve the already easy access to the city from London and the rest of the UK.
Milton Keynes is also planning for the expansion of its cultural, leisure, urban and transport infrastructure with further development of the city's main shopping centre, plans for new housing and retirement facilities, a new state-of-the-art coach station, planned road widening, hotel developments, new primary and secondary schools and innovative environmental solutions.
