Parks & Open Spaces
Milton Keynes was designed as the 'city in the country' with 20% of the city open space. Its residents and vistors can enjoy thousands of acres of parkland, woodland, lakes and rivers - with more than 22 million trees.
Together, Milton Keynes Council and The Parks Trust maintain the public open spaces, including the landscaped areas alongside the city's main roads. The Parks Trust, an independent charity, owns and cares for over 4,500 acres of parkland, woodland, farmland, lakes and riversides, as well as the landscaped areas alongside 80 miles of grid roads.
- Campbell Park is the city's very own 'Central Park' close to the city centre, and provides a green oasis for residents and visitors alike
- Willen Lake is a world of extremes, from the majestic and tranquil Peace Pagoda through to the crazy world of cable-tow wakeboarding and dragon-boat racing
- The ancient woods of Shenley, Howe Park and Linford offer a wealth of flowers, wildlife and peaceful woodland walks or bike rides
- The River Ouzel winds its way through the city past traditional country pubs and the remains of a medieval community
- The Grand Union Canal forms a living, breathing artery through the very heart of the city, easing the pace of life
- Over 270km of dedicated Redways allow residents and visitors to explore the city's open spaces on foot or by bike
