Renewable Power Systems has won a £10m contract to build and operate a state of the art anaerobic digestion system for Milton Keynes Council.
The facility will process all of Milton Keynes food and garden waste - more than 25,000 tonnes each year, as the council expects the amount of organic waste to rise to 30,000 tonnes in the next five to seven years.
Biogas produced by the AD process will generate electricity to power the facility itself and the bulk of it will be pumped into Milton Keynes' district heating system.

Renault-Nissan Leaf launch in Milton Keynes
The Renault-Nissan Alliance yesterday signed an agreement with the UK city of Milton Keynes giving its residents priority on orders of the two companies' electric vehicles.
In return, Milton Keynes Council will support the installation of 430 electric vehicle recharging points in public and private locations around the city and in up to 2000 homes.
Milton Keynes is part of the Joined-Cities Plan, which aims to create a network of charging points across the country, and is receiving funds to support the rollout of electric vehicle infrastructure via the Government's £30 million Plugged-In Places scheme.

BlueSquare Data Holdings Ltd in Milton Keynes has announced record growth figures
Data centre provider BlueSquare Data Holdings Ltd has announced record growth figures following the opening of its facility in Milton Keynes just one year ago.
The Milton Keynes data centre was opened by the Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Jan Lloyd, in March 2009 and is already 25 per cent occupied. It offers co-location services, offering businesses a highly secure environment to store mission-critical data and/or back up data that is held at their own sites for the purposes of disaster recovery.
The Milton Keynes site has been instrumental in terms of helping us achieving much greater growth than we thought possible in the current economic climate, said Robin Ellis, group commercial director at BlueSquare Data. Milton Keynes is blessed with superb transport network and power links, making our proposition extremely attractive to prospective customers.
